Sites infected with malware, now seeing connectivity issues after cleaning

About a month and a half ago, all 5 of my wordpress websites being hosted on Bluehost were infected with malware. A week ago, I was made aware of this when my websites started redirecting users to malicious phishing sites. Contacted BlueHost, got a report of all infected files, cleaned them manually, no more malware.

However, around the time my websites were apparently infected, I’ve been having connectivity issues on all of my websites. I get a random variety of errors on random pages at random times. These errors range from

“err_connection_closed”
to
“err_http2_protocol_error”
to
“500 Proxy error”
to
“502 Bad gateway”

I’ve tested these sites across different networks and devices and the errors still occur.

Looking in the console area of inspect element, on any given page, there are “net::ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED” errors when attempting to “GET” a variety of resources ranging from minified js to plugin files to simple images.

I’ve already tried disabling all plugins, changing themes, etc to no avail.

I’ve contacted Bluehost several times about this, but they’ve been totally useless. They seem to not want to settle on the fact that it’s very likely a server issue.

Anybody know what I can possibly do about this? I’m at a loss. I’ll gladly provide more information if necessary.

This was so super easy. It’s upgraded my workflow totally – I can use free cloud WP services to demo sites to customers then easily migrate them to the final host. The quick start guide was amazing, just by following the simple 2m30s overview video I was able to migrate my site. Truly amazing.

Migrated site from wordpress.com t wordpress.org but people keeps vitising old

Hi,
I recently migrated my site from wordpress.com til wordpress.org hosted by Bluehost. The thing is, though, even though I’ve moved my domain and my old wordpress.com site now has a “.wordpress.com” domain again, people keep visiting the old site and that I do not understand.
At the same time, I was wondering if it’s possible to transfer e-mail followers as well?

Hope someone can help me figure this out. 🙂

Login to Word Press from Bluehost Portal

First time user and I can’t get started due to error message –

When on the Bluehost portal when I click “Login to Word Press” I get the error message: There was a problem connecting to wordpress. Contact support if problem persists.”

I have used Bluehost support chat twice and they were both very helpful. However, here is the latest they said:
“You have 7.2 version for your PHP and not all plugins/themes are compatible to higher version.” I will try to put the PHP to default which is 56. If still not working you have to contact the developer of wpform.

Then,
“I have tried the 5.6 but I am still getting the same thing. I will put it back to what is was and please try to reach the developer of the Wpform because we have no blueprint how the developer created that.”

Please advise!

Importer not importing entire website

Until recently I have used wordpress.com with my own domain name. This year I decided to change over to hosting on bluehost and transfer my website to wordpress.org.

I have spent hours trying to get this to work, I am currently exporting my website using the export function on wordpress.com that provides me with an .xml file for the website. I then upload this .xml file to wordpress.org and let it do its thing.

So far I have tried the following:

– Just use the xml file
– split the xml file into many smaller xml files and use each one by one
– change PHP version to 7.2 (original 7.0)
– Tried to get FTP working but I couldn’t get this working for the time being
– Increased the timeout and max upload limits in the PHP file in the home directory of bluehost.

I am pulling my hair out trying to get this to work. Splitting the xml file into a number of smaller files has semi-worked. The website could now be best described as increadibly broken but the theme, some images and some text are all there, however formatting and links are broken.

Can someone please just give me any potential routes to get this to work?

WPForms deleted my Form Entries. Can I recover them?

$

I was using the free version of the WPForms plugin. I received an email stating that I had two entries on one of my forms. When I logged on to see them, I was informed that only WPForm pro users could see entries. I upgraded to pro and found that I still could not see the entries. I contacted WPForms customer service and said there was no way they could recover them because the free version of their plugin does not store the entries. So essentially they’re floating in the ether somewhere.

Customer service also said this:

“While our Lite plugin isn’t able to collect or store entries in any way beyond sending out the email, some hosting providers do log emails that are sent out from the sites they host. So if you need to try and recover undelivered emails, the best next step in trying to find records of previous entries is to contact your site’s hosting provider to ask if they do this.”

My question is, could you possibly recover these entries through WordPress???

Fatal Error: missing Jetpack file? Read this.

$

If your site is hosted with Bluehost or HostGator and you use the Jetpack plugin, you may have received an email from your WordPress installation, notifying you about a fatal error on your site.

This error is as follows:

An error of type E_COMPILE_ERROR was caused in line 41 of the file /home/[username]/public_html/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/load-jetpack.php. Error message: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘/home/[username]/public_html/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/class.jetpack.php’ (include_path=’.:/opt/cpanel/ea-php73/root/usr/share/pear’)

We are aware of the issue, and so is your hosting provider, Bluehost. We are checking in with them regularly as they locate the root cause.

Meanwhile, you can get the site back online by entering WordPress recovery mode (you’ll find a link to enable recovery mode on your site in the email that was sent to your admin email address). From there you can deactivate the Jetpack plugin and your site should come back online.

We’ll update this thread as soon as they have a resolution to the issue. In the interim we recommend leaving Jetpack deactivated to prevent issues.

Thanks for bearing with us as we work through this.

Hosting, changing host, recommendations

My hosts are being a bit sheepish about an issue I appear to have identified that once narrowed down logically can only be to do with their server! Which they flatly deny.
However, they’ve been quite evasive and unable to answer simple questions, and I’ve had to complain and request the complaint be sent over to their management team several times, which they’ve ignored. I’m fed up now and it seems like I’m getting the runaround, which is disappointing after a number of years with the same host.

I’m now looking to move to a new host and I note that on here there are three recommended:

Bluehost
Dreamhost
SiteGround

Which of the three would anyone recommend? Top things I’m looking for is speed and good customer service! I’ve also got 1 site and 2 subdomains and looking to create another full website.

DISAPPOINTED that this enquiry was closed, but I understand if topics like these get spammy, I suppose…?

My website is extremely slow to load

Hi, I’ve spent the past 2 weeks trying to optimise a website that I’m developing for a client. I’ve managed to bring it down to around 6 seconds for the homepage but this is still too slow for a modern-day website: https://tools.pingdom.com/#5d29d56e90800000

I’ll list the techniques that I’ve used so far:

– Moved to cloudflare CDN
– Implemented caching
– Removed unnecessary plugins
– Optimised all images to the point where the average size is around 20kb
– Loaded all fonts onto the site so it’s not having to pull from Google fonts
– Compressed all font files
– Used Asset cleanup to remove unwanted scripts on the page (I can’t remove anymore without breaking functionality)
– Updated PHP and all plugins

I shouldn’t have to upgrade the hosting server or change website builder (Divi) as I run another site on the same server which loads in 3 seconds with a page size of 8mb.

Bluehost can’t figure out why this site, in particular, is loading so slowly, I’d really appreciate it if someone could take a look at the report or suggest ways to improve the load time.

After Bluehost update to 2.2 I got a Jetpack related fatal error again. It seems the site is running fine though. Bluehost has issued another update to 2.2.1 so I hope this is fixed.

I changed my website URL in BlueHost, now I cannot log into WordPress

Here is everything that I did so hopefully someone can see where I went wrong.
I accidentally started my domain (FullHouseSoftWash.com) on wordpress.com
The website that I was creating on WordPress.org (hosted through my Blue Host) had a temporary box domain
I wanted to change my temporary domain to (FullHouseSoftWash.com) so I,
Changed my WordPress.com site to a random URL to free up (FullHouseSoftWash.com)
In my Bluehost dashboard, I went to My Sites < Manage site < settings < Site URL
I replaced the temporary domain with ” https://FullHouseSoftWash.com ” Hit save
It updated just fine except when I went to My Sites, and tried to log into FullHouseSoftWash.com with WordPress, it now brings me to an error page stating “www.fullhousesoftwash.com’s server IP address could not be found”

Hello.

I am new to WordPress and creating a website. I recently logged in to WordPress and when trying to edit my site, I was faced with this:

Composer detected issues in your platform: Your Composer dependencies require a PHP version “>= 7.2.5”. You are running 7.0.33.

Please could someone advise the steps I need to take to resolve this issue?

Thanks

There is a problem with my website, the PHP isn’t working

Earlier WordPress has updated my site, the message is as following
“Howdy! Some plugins have automatically updated to their latest versions on your site at https://mohamedhatem.com. No further action is needed on your part.

These plugins are now up to date:
– Polylang version 2.8.4
– Bluehost version 2.3.2

If you experience any issues or need support, the volunteers in the WordPress.org support forums may be able to help.

When I went to log into my website there was an error, the composer has issues with my platform that My PHP is lower than the PHP required for the Composer, and my website isn’t working right now.. So what is the solution?

Hello. Something happened, my website stopped working, I cannot login to my dashboard. There is an error message Composer detected issues in your platform: Your Composer dependencies require a PHP version “>= 7.2.5”. You are running 7.0.33.

But how can I update it if I cannot login?

WPForms Lite update 1.6.3.1. giving ‘critical error’– under bluehost

I didn’t include a link because I’m still building out the site so it’s on maintenance mode.

Ever since the update, I can’t submit any forms when I test it out, even though previously I was able to. Instead, I get a “your site has a critical error” and it directs me to debugging protocols. I’ve asked Bluehost support and they’ve identified that it’s the WPForm Lite plugin that’s causing the bug (they tried helping me debug it but it didn’t work).

I don’t think it’s another plugin because the required fields don’t have the browser’s built in validation prompt when I don’t fill it out instead of WP’s default one (from this site: https://wpforms.com/docs/getting-support-wpforms/). At the same time, I’m not totally sure about the plugin since I’m using a plugin called “GSheetConnector WPForms”, but it’s not a caching plugin.

I know it’s a lot of information, but I really value this plugin and am grateful for any support you may have. Already latest wordpress, bluehost, and PHP versions too. Thank you so much!

Sarah
